Prison transport vans in the UK

It is common when watching a report on a high profile UK criminal trial to see photographers running to the side of the transport van and snapping flash photos through the dark tinted window.

Does anyone know why they bother? Not once have I seen a photo published of a suspect/ convict sitting in the van, so presumably it is nigh on impossible for the photo to capture anything beyond the glass?

Therefore, why do they do it?

Because that one time when they get the money shot, it will be worth it!! Or maybe because they have feck all good shots to take to the boss and have to be seen to do some work on tv?
