Nikon 10.5mm fisheye query

Im considering buying the Nikon 10.5mm 2.8G fisheye lens and hope someone can advise me on the following.

I'm aware the lens won't autofocus on a lot of cameras including mine. However I've read that if the debt of field is set to "infinity", the whole scene is in focus, therefore lack of autofocus is not a problem.

However, am I right in saying this will negate the lens's performance in low-light?

    Thanks in advance.

the focus point won't have an effect on low light performance on its own. unless you mean stopping down to minimum aperture in association with the above.

another point - fisheye lenses tend to be gimmicky. i'd be wary of spending a lot of money on a lens which you'll grow tired of quickly.

    Cheers.

I don't think I'd grow tired of it. I know it's not a lens for everyday use but I have several "essential" lenses and like the idea of a fisheye in my kit.

When used correctly it can be hugely impressive.

needed to get too close to the subject?

    Yep.

I realised that if the subject is beyond a few feet away, the lens is basically an ultra wide angle lens.

As I already have the Nikon 10-24mm wide angle, the purchase made no sense.
