To the woman in a drak blue car. car reg: EDITED unfortunately i did not get the last 2 digits. you hit me on my bike this morning at 07:35 at the new junction at blanchardstown road north, and tolka vally park. YOU crossed a cycle lane, forceing me of the bike, you did NOT stop, insted to drove away as fast as you could, i have light on the bike, so i know you could see me, and i know you know you hit me, as your kid in the back set was shouting to you...
now nothing much happened to me, but that was more down to luck, if you see this thread, i would appreciate if you could, drive a bit more slow in the future, and NOT drive away from a accident.
as i said, if only i had the last 2 digits of your reg, i could have went to the garda with it.
i will look out for your car the next few days, as i the matter of road safety, you need to be told the rules of the road.

You should still go to the gardai with the partial reg and description. They might still be able to find her

i might just do that, still dont think they will or can do anything about it.

Lots of cctv around that area, that driver should be reported, next time a cyclist mighten be that lucky.

No really, you should make a formal complaint to the Gardai.

With a partial reg the garda can bring it down to roughly 100 cars. With reg and make approx 5 cars, with reg make and colour I can guarantee they will be knocking on her door if your willing to testify.

If you know make and model of car it is only 100 cars at most to look at,pulse should pick it up quickly, she should be reported.

Certainly go to the Gardai and report the incident

MOD VOICE: Partial reg edited out, those are details for the Gardai, not here

Both DCC and FCC have access to the CCTV. Since you're in Blanch I suggest you get in touch with FCC and see if they can assist you. They'll probably require a Gardai request before they'll oblige though.

How do you know she reads the cycling forum of boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Stroon

Can I ask where/how exactly it happened?

I live nearby and I think the new junction design is pretty poor. People coming from Blanchardstown Shopping Centre looking to get onto the M50 have to cut across a cycle lane, and the junction is so complicated that people often end up leaving it pretty late to make that manoeuvre. I was a foot or so away from being cut off at the weekend there.

Although not the best junction around, the problem with it is the drivers who actually use it. I drive it almost daily and some of the manoeuvres by people who pay no attention to road markings is beyond ridiculous at this stage.

Leaving the scene of a collision is an offence and is taken seriously, you should most certainly report it to the Gardai.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,574 ✭✭✭ZiabR

Go to the Gardai with everything you have about the car. It needs to be reported. Thing is, if she had of stopped and apologised to you instead is leaving the scene of a accident, that her young child has witnessed it would not be as bad.

You are ok, thats the main thing I suppose.

you are 100% right, all she need to do was to say sorry about that, are you ok ?
i am ok, just one of then brown trusser moment :-)

Good to hear you are ok. You should report it. She will get a visit.
The school run drivers are a menace: can't drive; drive large vehicles; don't care; use their phones.

report it to the Gardaí with the partial details, but you'll have to follow it with a personal statement in the station. I did this during the summer when aggressive / dangerous driving nearly ended up with me being knocked off my bike and pushed into faster traffic approaching from the rear. The guards will follow this up - they will ask you if you wish to press charges, or issue a formal warning.

so true, there is a lot of dangerous stuff going on in and around school runs.

No I didn't - it would involve a day in court, which I didn't have the appetite for. The Guards advised me they had visited the driver at home and issued the driver with a formal warning. Perhaps that was enough to educate this particular driver.

Cyclists could do with learning the rules of the road. I have never seen one stop at a red light in town

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 14,111 Mod ✭✭✭✭monument

I was on this junction at the weekend (in a car) and I was not impressed with the layout for cyclists.

I had seen drawings / photos before and it did not look too bad but the way drivers cut over the cycle lane just does not work from what I seen and that's just backed up by what posters here are saying.

There's a time and a place for this kind of post. This thread isn't it, so let's leave it there.

    Thank you.

Having read numerous similar posts I wonder if Dublin area is the worst place in Ireland to cycle? General driver and cyclist attitude is the worst there? It sounds exotic almost!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,047 ✭✭✭Kettleson

I'm not a cyclist. But your reported behaviour of the driver is totally unacceptable on so many levels.

I hope you have the tenacity to take this as far as you can. (And I'm pleased you were not injured too).

I think Dublin is generally a nice place to cycle - probably the best in Ireland.

The only issue is that there's a lot of:
    • Cyclists
    • Motorists
    • Stress (getting to and from work)
    • Traffic and people in a hurry

So there's also a lot of people who have had bad experiences!
