Was in Paris a few years ago, seemed pricey enough compared to other European cities but its do-able. Just dont go drinking in the Paris version of Temple Bar and stay clear of tourist traps like Irish bars and you should manage to keep the spending down.

Was in Paris last November, got flights and accommodation for 3 nights for €400 for 2 people. And the hotel wasn't a dive.

You can drink 9-10 euro pints if you want. But in most of the "brasseries" pints are only a couple of euro, depending on what you order. We brought €600 between 2 of us for the 3 days and had loads of money. Saw all the sights and ate out 2-3 times a day and had a great night out on the Saturday.

Paris isn't as expensive as people say once you keep track of the spending. And look around for places to eat.

Madrid would be my top recommendation. Great city, great atmosphere & not expensive. I've been about 10 times now & keep going back!

Its been a few years so it might have changed. I remember it being around the same prices as pints were in Dublin. I stayed in the Bastille side of town so not sure how that compares to other areas price wise.

irish_bhoy09, ryanair have a sale on now too, book before midnight Thursday and travel on selected dates in Jan and Feb. I started looking at breaks after you started this thread and spotted it :)

I wouldn't let the price of a pint put you off visiting Paris. Yes, it can be expensive, but with a bit of forward planning, you can find places like this.

Don't let bad reviews put you off, you get good value food / drink and tourists give crap reviews because they want to spend nothing and have everything.
