Do you actually need windows? Or can you use a pirated copy.

Genuine question, I have windows 7 on my old PC but I'm not sure whether or not the CD is still active so I don't want to buy a new one, do you need to purchase a copy or will a pirated copy do?

You want a legit copy for updates and support. MS security essentials is another very good reason to have a genuine copy. You can download the .iso online and install it from that and then just buy a serial key from amazon for about 30 or 40 euros. But you have a 30 day trial that can be extended easily by an extra 3 months so if you even put aside a tenner a month you'll cover the cost. When it's that cheap there's no reason to pirate it for all the hassle involved.

Just wanted to ask, have you actually extended your trial before? If it works then I could add €85 for component upgrades :)
