Anyone has one of this Guerciotti Record they sell on Planet X?
I'd like to get a steel bike with a retro look and this seems to be a cheap enough option, but I read the paint work is crap.
    How about feeling and performance?

That's a serious discount on a handmade steel frame. The lugging and brazing is beautiful.

If I had €350 to burn I'd buy it.

Pity they are out of stock though.

Yeah was thinking of getting one as well earlier in the year. Beautiful frame, Planet X have none left and I was under the impression they were a once of thing and they won't have anymore in.

Some beautiful full builds people have done online http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/files/px/rides/440x380_constW/1F1TO02U-GuerciottiRecord3a.jpg

I called Planet X and the frames are back in mid December, hopefully at the same price they are sold at the moment.
I suppose, even in the case the paint job was brutal, it would still be a good bargain for an italian handmade.
    Any boardie has got one?

When you say the paint job is crap, do you mean in general, or is it just at the dropouts.

    everywhere apparently.

I read also in many other reviews that the paint job is not great.
Maybe it was just a bad batch of the 2012 version. This new ones could be better... hopefully.
If you google it, you'll find other reviews on the bike.

So they are rebranded FAUSTO COPPI by Masciaghi.

So even if the paint is ****, you can get it blasted and powder coated for €100ish and still have a bargain bike.

Hand made in Monza, should be good tack.

Presumably the tubing is in fact Columbus Thron... Just seems strange why they would rebrand them when Coppi frames would also be desirable.

I totally agree with you, it wouldn't bother me in fact!! And yes, you could certainly get it resprayed, even in 5 years time... The only thing I would do is to buy some decals as well and keep them away in the shed for when the time comes, but I looked in the web and found none so far.

Planet X aren't going to be selling fake Columbus tubes in fairness.

You also wouldn't expect them to sell Coppi frames branded as Guerciotti...

Columbus Thron tubing was one of the lower spec Columbus models above Columbus Cromor and Aelle but below SL, SLX, TSX, EL etc iirc.

I thought the same when I read that post on that blog... Why doing that anyway?
As for the columbus thron, what would it make different from the higher spec ones? is it just weight or something else?

The higher end steel tube sets were generally lighter and stiffer. I found this (link below) before which has details of expected weight and characteristics of the different Columbus models. Thron isn't on the list through as this list seems to pre-date that. From what I have read it was a well regarded tubeset.
