Straw bedded shed regulations

    Hi folks,

Have an old cow byre here that has been decommissioned for the last number of years, and now is just mainly used to store sundries.

However, at calving time I do be very short of space.

I am considering tossing a wall of this byre and installing feed barriers, overhang etc. and just bedding the flat floor with straw and putting some freshly calved cows into it.

I just wondering would this be legal as there would be no tank nearby to collect any 'runoff' and if it was bedded with enough straw I'm sure there would be no runoff?.

Cheers for any replies, as I feel this 'shed' is being wasted as there is a also an now unused handling at the back of it also.

    Kind regards.

No run off = no tank.

You must not clean it out until 15 jan unless you have proper dungstead. After 15th you can make a heap in a field as long as your far enough away from watercourses etc

Curbs would be better but so long as it is called High Straw if you get inspected

Should be no issue if only using it as at calving time( I presume that you are spring calving. If you are stuck you can put dung if it will fit on top of adgitation point before Jan 15th

No problem with it as long as it has a concrete floor and don't clean it out until the closed periods are up unless you have a dungsted.
