I am currently studying for the leaving cert and I am considering studying arts in Maynooth , I just want some opinion on the college its self , such as the courses , facilities on campus and in Maynooth town the, atmosphere of the college , student and college experience in general. So yay or nay ?

    Second time in university.

4 years in DCU to 4 months in Maynooth and I'd much rather it here already.

There's just a nice atmosphere here, feels right. Glad i picked it over other iniversities. No idea about arts so can't help you on that one. Maynooth town is cool. I commute so I don't get to live a full proper student life but the nights I have sampled have been good.

Now back to my essay, thanks for the distraction. :)

I loved it- great college, great town, great social life and not too far from Dublin. Bit more of a community feel to the college than other places my friends went to. I liked the town so much I stayed afterwards and am still there :)

I did Arts and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I don't have anything to compare it with. The courses had good variety on the syllabus and were taught well on the whole.

Positives: I loved their arts course. History was great, so much so I studied for an MLitt. English was brilliant but since I was there they got rid of Medieval English and I loved Margaret Robson but Trinity gained there! I know that they stopped doing tutorials in English too which, in my mind, was a big mistake. The campus is lovely especially St Pats and you get to know a load of people.

I say the next part as a Kildare man, you will here a lot of folk say: it is near to Dublin (actually a train from Maynooth to Dublin and a train from Kildare Town to Dublin take roughly the same time) whilst this can be a good thing it has it's downsides (1) Maynooth can be expensive. (2) it could do with a cinema ( so you don't have to go into Dublin) (3) a theatre would be nice (not the Aula Maxima) (4) it doesn't have a great range of pubs (5)there is no public transport to South Kildare, Dublin yes but not the rest of the county. It should go with out saying this is just my opinion and my opinion alone. Overall, I loved my time in Maynooth it changed my life.

I would recommend it too. I loved my time there - though I was in science so cant comment on the course content for Arts. I had friends doing Arts and they all enjoyed the courses.

I found the atmosphere of the college really good. The campus is really nice IMO. Modern enough on the new side and some nice walks around the old buildings on the other side.

Lots of pubs and restaurants, much bigger choice now than when I was attending. Pool and gym etc on campus and another at the hotel.

Train into Dublin is pretty quick. Cinema close enough at liffey valley. Plenty of choice for weekly shopping.

Glad to be of some assistance and just while it is in my head Maynooth Access office is excellent especially for helping new students adjust to university life.

I'm in Arts at the moment I love it because everyone I've met in my courses are so friendly and we all get on well.I'd say the worst thing about Arts is the times the way my tutorials are spread out means I hav 6 hour continuous break on Mondays and a five hour break on a thursday. The hours you'll have wont be mental I'm in like 20 odd hours a week so not too hefty and the range of options on the arts course here is fantstic

I couldn't say a word against the place. Also, this is just me talking, but the place feels like Santa's Grotto this time of year. You walk out the main gates and there's christmas trees for sale, the lake usually freezes over, it puts a smile on my face.

I'll have two of whatever you're taking!

I'm joking, just being a grinch, Maynooth is a great place in all fairness. Great lecturers, most of which will give up whatever breaks they have to talk to you about any problems you're having.

I detested my course - though from what I understand it has improved tenfold in the last number of years, credit where credit is due - but I learned a huge amount outside of lectures. For anyone that wants to learn not just about their particular subject but wants to engage in debate, expand their social horizons and meet one of every kind of person on the planet, I honestly can't recommend anywhere above NUI Maynooth. Best thing I ever did.

Also, one of the things I loved, and still love, about Maynooth town is the amount of oddballs and characters the town has. There's tonnes. I know every town has them, but I think Maynooth has way more than average!

    The stories are hilarious :)

There are a few alright! Still miss The Rye and the bridge though.

It's a small place which is good at the start, but after a few years, that may start to get to you like it has with me. For the most part I've enjoyed my time there, but it's gotten dull. If you're not interested in drinking on a night out, there's not a whole lot else to do in the town really.

Some of the best days of my life, would highly recommend it. :)

It's a bit shít, nights out are very repetitive and I've only been here a few months. Only 3 places to go. Although I do come from Galway and was in Dublin for 2 years so that might explain it.

The town is so bad, there is actually nothing to do other than drink. Every where is so spread out, Tesco is one side of the town, Aldi the other side, Lidl is up near the motorway and Dunnes is in the town. McDonalds is near Tesco, which is a 10 minute walk from the town, and there is no cinema or casino. And there's no decent shops. If you don't have a car you'll be walking a lot. I'm probably moaning a bit too much though..

Aside from that the people are lovely, definitely one of the more friendly colleges from what I know. It's just a shít town, in my opinion of course;). Also, the price of a pint seems to be quite low everywhere, you wouldn't pay more than €3.50 a pint (€3 in the SU), which compared to Dublin is fantastic. Was forking out €4.90 a pint last year

I loved the four years I spent studying there, loved the people, the atmosphere, my courses (I did Arts then MSc). I learnt so much more than just my subjects, met so many different people from different groups etc and developed interests in stuff I never thought I ever would.

I'm from Maynooth as well, so it was slightly different for me, in that I hear people calling my village a pile of crap all the time! :pac: Also hearing locals bitching about students and vice versa gets a bit boring.
I am incredibly biased though, I live here and really do love the college as well as the town. I was glad I decided to go to Maynooth instead of heading into Dublin. Travelling etc was not for me!

While I loved Maynooth when I was there THFC has some valid points!

My opinion is that Maynooth is a town where the streets are made out of gummibears and the houses are made out of chocolate! :)

Oh, what's that? Honest opinion? OK, so to be honest, I exaggerated a little... but Maynooth's still great! :) Awesome social life, beautiful campus (in particular the south one), wonderful people... everything you can wish for really :)

The college is good, but I found the town very boring and you run out of things to do fast.
