Box that will play netflix with xbmc pre installed, so certain add ons can easily be accessed
Also if possible one that takes an external hard drive via USB but this isn't a deal breaker

I currently have a jailbroken apple tv2 myself and a little nas and would like something similar for my sis if possible but atv2s are too pricey
So basically something that does the same job

She currently has netflix on her ipad
She was on about getting cables so she can connect it to her tv

I suggested while this may work fine that there are lots of media players that would so the same for playing netflix and wouldn't cost too much more

While I was at it I suggested that some other boxes offer more through xbmc add ons

But as regards recommendations I don't have a clue

A pi sounds like too much on going work

Have you looked at the type of Android media boxes on Geekbuying.com as it would give you a good idea as to what's available.
I got a Tronsmart Prometheus there which has xbmc preinstalled & I have a 1tb usb drive working off it. Installed Netflix, Rte player etc & all working fine.
I'm sure there are lots of other units also that can do similar.

Regarding the add ons I set up xunity on mine but I believe xbmc comes with its own or you can download more. There's also fusion which is popular
I'm very new to xbmc so I'm only finding my way around it. Already though I've found a handful of add ons that do everything I want so down the road I may delete the current set up & just install the few addons I need. Internal space is limited on my media box & I haven't figured out how to save to an external device yet so it would suit me to slimline the setup.

Ya it's the fusion add ons that I use most on my Apple TV
I was just wondering what was the next best thing to a jailbroken atv2 for these

I'd have to say an Ouya for hassle free setup.

I always thought Netflix didn't work well with XBMC?
