Mini Cooper ABS Light

    Hey,

2005 Mini Cooper 1.6L Petrol has the ABS light on the dash now for a very long time.

The whole ABS system was renewed about 3 years ago so I doubt theres a problem with it.

The car is running fine. Brakes seem to be fine too.

    Maybe a sensor?

    Anyway to turn light off?

    Thanks

Easiest way to turn off the light is by taking the bulb off. :D

If you want to sort out the problem though, you better have the car plugged in and read the error code so you can find out what's wrong with your ABS.

By saying "brakes work fine" do you mean that ABS also works? I actually doubt that.

You need to get the car's fault code read by someone with diagnostic software. It will point to where the problem is, if is an ABS sensor on one of the wheels which is a common problem, then the fault code should tell you which wheel it is on.

Just clearing the warning light will not fix the problem and it will soon come on again.

Removing the bulb will fail in nct. Get codes read and fault reset.

That's probably on the end of list of worries when you have malfuntioning ABS.

    Cheers for the replies guys.

I have a scan tool myself, albeit a basic one, it says No Fault Codes. I don't notice any difference in the brakes compared to my own car to be honest.

I was hoping for a quick way of turning out the light, and if it comes on again I'd definitely get it to an auto technician.
    Thanks

I had a ABS light on for ages in my old BMW, brakes were fine.
Turned out to be bad sensor which was quite expensive and a b**** to change.

Bring it to a local mech that has cooper knowledge and get an opinion from them.

Is the ABS actually working? There's a mention of snow towards the end of the week so you'll know then. Probably best to get the code read properly.

Did you actually try to make ABS running?
Find a safe area and step on the brakes. If wheels lock up, it means your ABS is not working. If they won't lock up, but pedal begins to vibrate it means ABS is working.

From my experience, if ABS light is on due to any error in ABS system, ABS is turned off automatically.

Indeed, you'd better get it checked now and not happening when driving through a corner with fallen wet leaves or frost.
