TUI / non union - have you had your increment backpaid yet?

I'm starting to get concerned at the delay in getting my increment backpaid.
I was due an increment in September but it has not come yet!
I know for a fact that even though I'm non-union, I fall under HRA so should be getting it backpaid. Its coming close to the end of the year and if its not paid before the end of the year, it will go into next year's tax year and we'll end up paying more tax on it.

Has anyone else (TUI or non-union) been paid their increment?

I am in a mixed union (officially but not in reality) school under the ETB. We have to fill out a form to declare TUI membership or else be considered outside HR. Those who have returned the form received their increment in November.

I'm in the TUI - working for an ETB - I didn't fill out any form but I got the increment updated and back paid in November's payment.

So it is to be backdated? Mine was updated but no back pay yet

Yep backdated to July if you were due an increment since then. Mine hasn't even been updated to the next increment never mind back pay!

I'm in an ETB. All the TUI staff in my school filled in the form and sent it off pretty much as soon as the circular was released. No increment yet.

It is a joke. I filled out form straight away and sent it back. Our school was told by the department that they were not paying out increment until all the staff who are tui (we are a mixed union school) fill them in and send them back! Our tui union has literally been chasing staff and marking them off her list when they tell her they have sent off form.

i got backpay but haven't checked the details yet.....

Does this mean that non-union staff in ETB schools are not getting their increment?

We don't know. We presume so. All non union staff except one have joined TUI

I teach in a communit school, I sent off the form asap, still nothing, I emailed payroll who confirmed they received my form but also that they have been given no direction as to what to do about increments. Have any others in community schools received theirs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,397 ✭✭✭✭rainbowtrout

I discovered today that in the ETB I'm in (which is a merger of three VECs) that they are doing the VECs one by one and my one is last. :(

Maybe if anyone knows which ETB's have paid out it would help posters?

How the heck do the department have the right to know who is and isn't the union? I gather they can tell from payroll deductions but using this info for other purposes is a beach of data protection. They should be just told by the school that everyone who is in is in and proceed with the payments forthwith. If they are matching submissions numbers against payroll union deductions then I think they are on shakey ground.

Also your TUI rep has no right to disclose the names on this list to the dept.

It is so unfair. I asked rep was there any update and they told me that there was still loads of people who still haven't done it. I get the impression they are not bothered as it doesn't effect them cos they are on top of scale. Some people are on their forth form still not filled out!! Tui rep didn't disclose names to dept I think It was more like the other way around!

They're not using that data and union reps are not supplying lists. That was the whole point of the form that came out with the department circular. You fill it in and send it to dept/ etb.

Yes rainbow trout my rep didn't get department a list. It is so annoying I doubt those who haven't sent in the form will! Dept said they aren't paying it until all the forms are back :(

That's possibly something to bring up with the union. One employee's pay should not depend on whether another employee has sent back a form or not.

I know it's soooo unfair. I think the dept are just trying to make excuses! I wonder has anyone else in a mixed union school gotten the back pay? On the bright side at least it will be like saving when I do get it!! (Not that it will be much!)

Yes TUI members who have returned the form have received their increments with backpay in my school. It's undef an ETB though so dealing with payroll rather than Department.

Well in my grade, everyone is supposed to be treated as TUI - no forms necessary - we have heard absolutely nothing about it and even people who were due their increment in November have had their increment stopped.
Problem is unless we get before the end of December, we'll all be paying more tax on it if we get it in January because it'll be in a different tax year. Not that anyone in the ETB Head Office would give a damn about that.

Ok cheers, but I was wondering how can the department then say for certain that all the TUI names from that school are not in yet. How do they know how many people have to have their forms in (esp. when the school is mixed between ASTI/TUI and 1 non -union)? Apologies in advance, im not TUI so not familiar with the process.

Not a clue. I'm ETB, but in a dual union school, so waiting to see what the next excuse for us will be. I wouldn't mind but HRA was appearing as €0.00 on my payslip since July so they were quick enough to account for the deduction for those on >65k in the summer and implemented it immediately, but give us our increment...no we can't do that.

yeah they were very efficient when cutting the pay. I had €0•00 reduction in july then went over 65k by in sept - cut the hell out of it ni delay. October was same as September then finally in November the cut was reduced by the amount of the s&s allowance but this wasn't backdated til September yet. Only time will tell when the whole thing will be sorted.

i don't get my increment until after Christmas so it will be interesting to see if i get it or if my pay cut dressed up as a pay pause is effective from January- the agreement is a bit unclear.

I had the same teacherhead, got backpaid my increment but no backpay on FEMPI reduction. Someone else asked HQ about it and apparently they are awaiting clarification from the DESk

Have no idea what the deal will be with the Dept: do everyone together, by school, by county...

Still at least my ETB finally got the finger out.

They are sooo annoying I rang them today as am on maternity leave and wanted to ask them a question about wages (I was worried they weren't deducting mat benefit and then I would loads of money!), anyway the lady was real cranky and said I can't tell you your net pay blah blah. Then after a few minutes she said let me look it up and guess what? She was able to look up net pay! I reckon the asti members in my school will get their s and s money before we get our increment!

    dual union in an ETB.

Did anyone in a dual union community school get theirs yet?

Are non HR/unionless people getting it as well?

Got it in nov, backdated to sept.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 624 ✭✭✭boatbuilder

Talked to etb head office today... they haven't even looked at it yet and will be January before they "get a chance" to do it. I asked what about the tax implications of that and they said they would give me a letter stating what amount referred to 2013 and I'd have to work it out with revenue. In youthreach btw.

Are ASTI now in a position for pay cuts to be reversed and increments to be implemented? Will these be back dated?

I would assume like the last time that a circular from the Dept will have to be issued before there is any move on increments. I only got my increment last week despite all the TUI members on our staff sending in the form that came out with the circular pretty much instantly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,729 ✭✭✭Millem

Hopefully I will get my increment now :) as asti have voted yes.

I think you will find that even if the money is paid in 2014, but relates to work for 2013, you can ask the Revenue to treat it as 2013 pay and tax accordingly.

Yes that's what the hr dept told me.
I wonder will I have to wait until the end of next year though or will revenue be able to sort it out somehow before that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,680 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

however be prepared to explain the same story to lots of different people in revenue and lots of confusion. That was my experience a few years back on a similar matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Uganda

In relation to the tax, if you get the RC to agree to backdate the 2013 bit to 2013, you will probably need to submit a tax return for 2013. Not everybody has to so it could be a bit of a chore. But it should be turned round pretty quickly this time of year.

However..........you have to enter details from your 2013 P60, and if the extra payments are not included by your employer on this (I.e. if they include it in 2014) there might be a difficulty.

With small employers that's not a problem, but in education, where, with respect everybody seems to make a mountain out of a molehill it might cause a problem.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,359 ✭✭✭whiteandlight

Right so I realised I never sent my letter stating I was in the TUI for my increment (found it in the car door.....).

Any idea do I still need to send it now or will increments just get applied after ASTI vote?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40 newtothis13

Nothing in this pay cheque either, it's getting to be a joke now. Has anyone from a community school been on to payroll?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,729 ✭✭✭Millem

Rang dept today and asked about increment, they told me they were waiting for a circular about asti accepting Haddington road. Don't know how true this is? I am tui but in a dual union school
