Was in a cafe getting the morning sambo and in came 3 'travellers' for the full Irish, changing their orders every two minutes and trying to get theirs ahead of everyone else. As soon as they eventually get their brekies they say...'can we pay by visa'....the intimidated woman says no theres a bank machine across the road....'can we pay by direct debit'....ffs at that point I was leaving, no doubt they cause mayhem without paying. Sick of seeing this crap from them, plenty of times over the years:mad:

Did you get the impression that the cafe was going to waive the bill out of fear that they might thrash the place?

Nope, the ones who behave themselves and mind their own business wonder why it's okay for people to assume they're assume they're thievin bastards. Nobody pays any attention to them, the majority of discussion around travellers is very negative and insulting and generalising. And then you wonder why they might not be that bothered about associating with settled people.

go ahead boys, call me a PC warrior or bleeding heart liberal. I literally get off on it.

I bet you have never actually encountered them regularly....just a hunch. Either that or they regularly knock round to yours to fix your horses shoe or fix your wonderly wagon wheel

Used to live up the road from a family of them, used to work in a café near to an estate where a lot of them were settled and they were frequent (paying) customers, have encountered some during the course of voluntary work, guess again :) Still feeling that there's "no doubt" that they didn't pay? NONE?

Sure I've had bad experiences with travellers, I'm just not such an eejit that I think they're all like that.

It suits them not to associate with the majority law abiding settled community

God, I hate it when a place can't accept cards. What century are they living in? Even I'd feel somewhat justified in walking out if they can't accept my form of payment.

OP - did you use the distraction they were causing to leave without paying?

Pieball - is that some sort of new breakfast roll filling or something?

Why did they leave it on your Honda?

Maybe they were hipsters - the attire and facial hair can be similar. The novice can get confused and mix them up.

Myself and two friends went for breakfast this morning and were morto to find we had no cash on us. I asked would they take laser but they didn't have the facilities to do so. The lady explained there was a cash machine across the road so I went over to it, got money out and paid for the breakfasts.

In hindsight I should have got the names and phone numbers of everyone in the place to tell them how the transaction ended in case they only seen part of what happened and jumped to the conclusion that we were trying to get the breakfast for free.

I love this bullsh*t that gets trotted out every time someone points out that it's wrong to generalise an entire group of people based on the actions of some individuals.

I'm from a council estate that had loads of Traveller families living in it, I volunteered with a Traveller visibility group in Cork City, due to involvement in boxing I encountered dozens of Travellers of all ages over the years, while working in construction in London I worked with Travellers, I've done jobs for Traveller contractors, I used to live in a pub with a few Traveller patrons.

In fact, I'd wager that I've had more substantial experience with that community than you've had. Have I encountered some right scumbags from that community or had some of them try it on? Definitely. I had a Somalian try and swipe my phone once as well, I don't logically follow on that all Somalis are thus bastards.

If you're prone to bigoted assumptions then that's your issue, just don't dress it up as you being a wise man of the world.

Come on fess up, you had a pocket full of cash after your mornings "work" at the car boot sale and a credit card you found in a bin, spotted the "no CC accepted" sign so made as much of a scene as possible while your kids were out back taking whatever wasnt nailed down and your mates walked out without paying.

I live across the road from a halting site, and I can genuinely say I have never had a bit of bother from them. We would say hello to each other, but the conversation has never gone further than that, which suits me fine.

The only problem I would have is that they let their small/visiting children (aged 3-4) out playing on the road, which is a fairly busy one and Im afraid one of them will get a belt of a car one day. If they were a normal family, I'd probably say it them but because they are travellers, I keep my mouth shut.

I agree there are family's that are rough, but the one's across from me are proof that not every traveller family conforms to the stereotype.

Given you left at that point, there would appear to be quite a lot of doubt as to whether they did or didn't pay, and given that they had already offered to pay by credit card at this point, I'm going to assume that they fully intended to pay and eventually did..

The majority of them don't give a fcuk about any manner of social civility.
They do what they want and their attitude is fcuk anyone who doesn't like it.

I've had the misfortune of having to deal with them on a few occasions. Without exception anytime they have entered my social sphere its been a negative experience.

But hey maybe I'm the ignorant wanker.

The last sentence is impressive but has no place in your reponse, most likely it was said to you before or its your party piece. I'm from Tallaght, live in Clondalkin and have numerous encounters with travellers in which easily 90% have been bad. When 90% of Somalians give me a bad experience your spot on, I'll see them in that light. Whats substantial experience, 'them benefitting from you' or you becoming more enlightened like your on some Budist pilgrim to Labre Park

You're from Tallaght therefore I can take it to mean that you're a horse burning skanger.*

*I don't actually mean this but that type of thinking follows on logically from the way you are speaking about Travellers.
