    Irish Times Article
Plans to introduce compulsory collective bargaining for all companies in the State will be announced tonight by Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore at the opening of the Labour Party national conference in Killarney.

What does this actually mean in real terms?

Does it mean that Companies will have to do away with existing pay-rise/bonus structures and move to unified "one-size fits all" approach?

Or does it just mean that if a group of staff get together on some issue at department or site level then the company would now be obligated to recognise that group and discuss/negotiate with them?

Definitely would not be in agreement if it's the 1st one and would really only be partially on-board for the second personally - Or maybe it means something completely different that I don't quite follow...

Just something to give the Unions a hardon at the Labour Party conference. It won't happen until Labour have a majority i.e. never.

    The labour party trying:
    - one size fits all..down to a lowest common denominator
    - trying to get their own ilk in as quasi unions whether they are wanted or not - I'd prefer to talk directly than through some labour flunkie
    - interfering, meddling....

I hope you're not inferring he's a pest of some description.

I mean, that would be entirely true of course...

They can go to hell with that idea. Too many Closed Shop Union Practices as it is.

Political party wanting to meddle in private sector wages yet refuse to sort out their own wage bill shocker.
