RAV4 Questions

    Hi all,
Just bought an 04 RAV4 D4D and need some info:

Clutch judders when changing down, particularly to 3rd or 2nd, no grinding or problems pulling away, changing up or reversing. Is it the dreaded dual mass flywheel?
If so, can I buy the solid flywheel kit and get my local Indy garage to fit it, or is special equipment required? This guy is old school, no fancy diagnostic equipment.

Accelerator pedal also feels strange, doesn't seem to operate smoothly, almost as if it is sticking occasionally. Could there be a connection between the two problems?

Also is the stereo, model 58812 coded? CD player wont work. When CD is inserted all the lights on the unit flicker and showing error code 1.
Any what might be wrong? Can anyone recommend someone who can repair it? The unit also displays outside temp, trip meter and fuel consumption info so I don't want to replace it with an after market unit.

    Thanks

Do you hear a sort of bang just when you start the engine?

No, nothing like that (yet!). just the problem with a judder somewhere at the left rear of the car. Also runs louder/rougher than I expected, even from a diesel.

Same thing happened on the mothers avensis 2.0 D4D. Dual mass flywheel is likely on its way out. Her's got so bad that the clutch friction plate got damaged and couldnt select any gears. Lux do a good solid flywheel and clutch replacement. Your independent garage should be able to do this change easily. Myself and the father replaced the flywheel and clutch over a long weekend with nothing other than an engine crane and a basic set of tools. Think the Lux solid flywheel and clutch kit was 600-700 euros. Labour costs could be expensive because a fair amount of ripping is required to access the clutch (we just lifted the engine and gearbox out of the car and did the work on the bench!)

    Hope this hepls
