Is the ignition considered part of the engine in a warranty. A friend has a golf vw and a 3 month warranty,on engine and gearbox. It broke down and was returned to the dealer who said the ignition was gone and the part would cost 750 euro and 200 to fit, that was 4 weeks ago, he said the part took nearly 2 weeks to get. He has put in the new part and it still not working. He says its a defective part. ITS not an simi dealer. advise please.

Wouldn't be covered on warranty, more likely the fault was misdiagnosed. Make you're not paying for parts you don't need or don't get. I'd want the old part back too if I was paying for it.

You MAY be covered under the Sale of Goods Act.

Google it, it covers all sorts of stuff which includes the purchase of second hand cars from any car dealer and all parts must be of "reasonable quality". If its a fresh enough car you have grounds under this as the part did not last a "reasonable" length of time.

Better still, contact the Consumer Rights crowd and they will advise you of your Statutory rights properly.

PS. What age is the Golf?
