105 chainset v's Shimano FC-R565 Hyperdrive!

I bought a new bike last wknd, it should have been fitted with a 105 compact chainset, but it was fitted with the newer (but as far as I can see, cheaper) Shimano FC R565 'hyperdrive' chainset.

I didn't notice it in the shop, only noticed it the next day when I saw the cranks had 'Shimano' written on them, instead of 'Shimano 105', the shop was closed on Sundays so I couldn't call into them.

The hyperdrive chainset seems to come with a lot of carbon bikes and bikes that are more expensive than the one I bought, but from looking online it's actually cheaper chainset than the 105?

This site shows the FC R565 at £84.85, and the 105 at £125.08.

I bought the bike in England last wknd and it lives in England, should I bother sending the bike shop an email mentioning I got the wrong chainset or just leave it?

This is a link to the specs of the 2013 model I bought listing the 105 chainset.
And here's a link to a more expensive bike with the chainset I actually got

    What would you do?
    First world problems I know.

so little difference between them its not worth making a fuss..

in fact some times it better to have a plain "shimano" stamped crank as it can be iserted into a tiagra, 105, ultegra groupo later to sell or on a winter bike etc...

ive had a few of these generic ones and they are absolutly fine.

Thanks, I'm going to leave it, I'm sure I wouldn't even notice the difference if I did get them changed.

    Hi,

i found this thread while looking for an info regarding very similar issue. I bought mine Speedster 20 few days ago and I noticed that the crankset is in fact R565 not 105. I wanted to ask at the shop, because I thought they are responsible for that, but it is not them! I guess Scott made a mistake in the Speedster (and Contessa) 20 specs. Please take a look at this old Scott website (hopefully it still works) and the bike's specs.
    http://www.scott.pl/product.php?id_cat=712&id_prod=4604
This website is in Polish, but I think you can easily find the crankset's name (Shimano 105 Compact Black FC-5750 Hollowtech II 50 x 34).
I have sent an email to Scott Poland about it and I am waiting for their response.

By the way the difference between R565 and 105 is about $100, and I think we should get the stuff we paid for.

I never bothered changing mine, I agree you should get the components you pay for and as advertised on the bike specs, but from looking at photos, a lot of the images showed the R565 chain set, whilst the written spec (assumed done by the shop) specified a 105 chainset- so there is confusion there.
The more expensive Scotts also had the R565, so in the end I figured the shop made a mistake in their spec description.
If I lived where I bought the bike and it was my full time bike I would have gone into the shop and asked about the difference.
Good luck in getting a response from Scott.

Yes, this is true, there is the R565 crankset in all of the official Speedster 20 photos I have seen. So I think the initial mistake was done while the specification list was created by Scott. Recently, they updated the specs for 2014 and you can find R565 there instead of 105.
Anyway, I am just curious what will be Scott's reply, if any :)
