the air is working fine but its cold air all the time. is this a quick fox job
or is it something a mechanic will have to look at?

If you're lucky then it's probably just the thermostat - costs about 30 euro or less from Ford, but your local motor factors would stock them as well. Takes about 30mins to replace and you will have to replace the coolant (about 25-30 euro for 5ltrs).

If that's not the problem, then it could be the Heater Control Valve. Call up your motor factor or local Ford Dealer and find out a price for this. You should be able to fit it yourself.

Another problem could be that the heater core is blocked and needs to be flushed out. This can usually be done with a pressure washer. Trying to locate the relevant pipes though can be a problem.

Youtube should help with all/most of these including diagnosing which it is.

is there water in your radiator? if it's low you wont get any heat.

Could easily be the other things above or the control valve on the dash.(fiestas do these things!)

The electric heater control valves on those fiestas are notorious for failing (around €40), that would be my first thing to check, remove the 4 hoses and with the cars ignition on and the heat turned to fully hot on the dash plug the cable back into the valve, you should see to valve move open when it gets the power if you know what i mean, if its not replace.

If the thermostat was not opening the engine would be overheating

yup and also the dial on the dash, the knob wears and becomes disengaged from the electrical bit it controls.

The thermostat could have failed in the open position. OP does your temperature guage move up after you start driving.

Start by checking that you have enough coolant.
No coolant means that the heat won't get transported from engine to the heat blowers in the cabin.

I'd bet its the valve too. Had to replace this part twice on my sisters fiesta. Its located under the bonnet near the bulkhead/windscreen. Probably a guide on YouTube on how to replace them. Its an easy enough job.

Don't make my mistake and replace with a part from the breakers, only for that to fail 3 months later :)
