I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I have a natural gas fire which I never use, and I wanted to put a little electric stove on the hearth just in front of it. The electric fire gets quite hot, and it might sound silly, but I don't want to blow the place up! There is what appears to be a tap behind a trap door in the wall beside the fire, should I get someone to turn off the supply just to be safe? And second question, could anyone recommend a gas engineer who could do this, I live in Grange Rath on the edge of Drogheda. Sorry for all the questions, and many thanks!

That tap is the isolating valve for your gas fire , if you go as far as getting a fitter to turn it off , get him to disconnect the gas supply to the heater .

Its a small job , he may be able to fit a stop end on the supply pipe , think they are either 8mm or 10mm pipes.

You are fine to use it but turning off the valve would be safer, you can do that yourself.
