I don't necessarily agree with this move - it should be up to the listeners / fans who decide if they want to listen to their music anymore, not the retailer. Now, I of course do not defend Watkins or anything like that, he's obviously an "evil monster" as the Daily Mail might have it. Pretty depraved, sick and twisted for sure. And I couldn't name one Lostprophets song.

But what about the other guys in the band? I don't persnoally don't care about them, but trying to erase all evidence that this band ever existed isn't really the way to go about it. And I suspect a certain percentage of the 3.5 million people who bought their records will still listen to them (in secret of course).

It's a pathetic attempt by HMV yo get a few headlines. They remove the Lostprophets yet continue to sell Gary Glitter

Being done purely for publicity. It really isn't like they'll sell any more anyway, what with the CD being dead as a format and the whole... you know... paedo thing.

This is truly terrible on the remaining members of the band and has likely traumatized them all and ruined their lives. While quite big, I highly doubt the Lostprophets were a band that was so big that all the members are now set for life, so now they'll all probably have close to zero income. I'd imagine, due to the longevity of the band, the members likely don't have any marketable skills other than making and playing music, and when it comes to music, very few people are going to want to hire any member of the band due to the association with Ian Watkins, and even if they did, they won't be able to play any Lostprophets songs, so at best, they'll have to restart their music careers which they've spent years building.

You never know, there might be sympathy for the other members in the community. Those metal bands tend to be quite tight. So they might get extended help. I doubt they'd be ostracised as a result of being in the same band as Watkins, but of course they couldn't go out as Lostprophets anymore.

I think I read that two of the original lads returned to College in the past year to finish their degrees so that might be a sign that they're finished with music.

I don't think they'll be blacklisted in the industry if they choose to stay in it through separate endeavours, it might just be best to lie low for a year or so.

    interesting, from1999, re gary glitter

Meanwhile, in the UK, retailers are continuing to sell the disgraced musician's records, despite reports of his records being banned from radio stations, and glam rock tribute acts agonising over whether to perform his hits.

Gennaro Castaldo, of the HMV retail chain, said just a "handful" of the three albums on HMV's shelves had been sold recently, adding sales would usually rise in the run-up to Christmas as Glitter took his gang show around the country.

He said HMV would not take his records off the shelves altogether.

"We wouldn't do that, we'd allow the choice to be made by our customers, or we'd end up on quite a slippery slope.

"We'll stock whatever there's a demand for, and despite his behaviour, there's nothing legally wrong with his music, and it's not our role to play the part of judge and jury."

Yeah but Gennaro Castaldo left HMV in May.
Moot point really, he was only a PR guy, it's not like he was dismissed for having crazy views in conflict with HMV, and note he said "we", "we'll" "our" etc.

There's a reasonable chance that it was the new PR guy who said "You know what will get us headlines? Removing Lostprophets from our shelves!"

"There's nothing legally wrong with his music"

Well at least that saves me suing Glitter, thanks for the heads up.
