Rent Allowance - Emergency

    Hi all

Our landlord has gone into receivership, and I was just wondering those that rule out any chance of getting rent allowance, as the bank/receiver will probably not accept it. Is there anything we could do to get the rent allowance? We are both looking for work and finding it impossible :( and I am worried we could be in trouble after Christmas.

If you are already in receipt of RA, then it should be a simple matter of paying the Receiver instead of the Landlord.

We haven't gotten it yet, as we were about to apply for it and the landlord went into receivership

Nope, we were but we both had jobs for a few months, only for my Jobbridge scheme to end, and my OH was let go due to the company closing down.

You have to be registered with your Local Authority for housing. IIRC you have to be on the list for the previous 6 months to qualify for RA. Sorry for the bad news.

If you have been renting for at least 6 of the past 12 months, you should go ahead and apply for Rent Supplement and, at the same time, apply to get on the local authority housing list. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/supplementary_welfare_schemes/rent_supplement.html
