Register for Vat?

Possibly another silly question but do you have to register for vat if you have just formed a patnership in which you will below the vat threshold. I understand the situation with income and have registered with revenue for my income. Its the vat that I'm a little unsure about. Thanks in advance.

The partnership is not obliged to register unless it exceeds the threshold.

If either partner has a similar business the turnover is added together for the threshold.
