Just thought I'd post these two links up. Lindie Naughton's one of the better "minority" sports journalists in the country (mainly because she's active in one so knows the challenges involved) and we've learnt a lot from her over the years on the mechanics of how to submit stuff to the media in a way that maximises the odds of it being picked up. If you don't know, for example, what file format to use when submitting a press release by email, take ten minutes and read through these...

The bit in the first link was interesting; I know the Irish Times has a sports results index with plenty of obscure local results; would they put in the results of Kilkenny/Bunratty/the Leinster and Irish championships if they were sent in? Just brief stuff like - KILKENNY Masters 1 K Rusev GM (Bul) 2-3 G Jones GM (Eng) S Collins IM (Irl) and on down through the sections? Has it been tried before?

(I know Irish newspapers tend to put chess in all sorts of categories except sport)

They used to print off everything I sent them for target shooting, and that was at a time when the sports editor of the Times would just hang up on you if you tried to contact the sports section directly (the chap didn't think Olympic shooting was a sport, he was a bit of an eejit really). So I think it's not really as overseen as the other sections. Try it and see :D

Boards had a chance to move Chess to the Sports category and didn't.

Really? Apart from running a public poll & asking for input you mean? And the votes for keeping it in Games won out.
