So many great Irish Whiskies out there at the moment. I listed some of the popular ones (I ignored some of the expensive older whiskies, and newer varieties such as Powers John's Lane, Tyrconnell Madeira Cask, Yellow Spot , Redbreast 15, Cask strengths etc.) that you can find in most supermarkets or off licenses.

    Pick your favourite!

Personally I went for the Redbreast. Such a magnificent sherry tinged whiskey. Fruits, vanilla, fantastic pot still taste. Was never a whiskey drinker (apart from flooring a few shots on a night out) until I got a bottle of this in a hamper about 12 years ago. It changed me forever.
The cask strength version of this from the Celtic Whiskey Shop is awesome.

That list is far too short. None of my favourite whiskeys are on it.
You should change the title to "Boards Favourite Irish Whiskey from the following small selection".

Gonna buy a bottle of Redbreast 12 as a Christmas gift. Tesco are selling it for €57 and the Celtic Whiskey Shop for €59. From the list above, you can't go wrong with Redbreast 12 or Green Spot tbh.

Well if you read the opening post I went for the obvious choices and avoided some of the rarer/more expensive whiskeys. This is a food and drink forum not a whiskey forum. YOu could not get consensus on 25 or 30 choices.

Out of interest what are your favourites?

Funnily, you mentioned them all - Yellow Spot, Power's John Lane and TYrconnel Madeira cask are the Irish whiskeys that have excited me lately.

Same as that, Midleton are doing amazing things at the moment with Pot Stills.

I don't understand the point of the thread.

You want a poll on the nicest Irish whiskey and leave out of the poll what most would consider the nicest??

I think for their price point's John's lane and yellow spot are miles ahead of anything near it.

    Thread does not compute.

The Kilbeggan 18 year old released last year to replace the 15 year old is simply sublime, pricey but I enjoyed every drop.

Midleton Very Rare is my favourite, but for the poll, I went for Green Spot.

I'd have to give a shout out for Greenore - quite like the bourbon notes. Bushmills Black Bush is a nice everyday whiskey

    Writers Tears is my favourite

My personal favourites are Jameson Select Reserve and Teelings small batch. But I still love the Red Breast 12yr too.

List is a bit short all right and if you put Redbreast 12 you should have included the likes of Jameson 12yo, Powersd 12yo and Powers "John's Lane"

But a nice bity of fun anyway.

I vote Writers Tears as that is wonderful easy drinking whiskey for the masses.

I could have added another 5 or 6 easily enough, but it's just a bit of fun - I went for the obvious choice of each brand thus picking Powers instead of John's Lane, BlackBush instead of the 10YO single malt, Jameson blend instead of the 12 year etc. Redbreast 12 is the entry level Redbreast (apart drom the rare redbreast blend).

How much is a bottle of Red Breast these days? I remember paying €40 odd for a bottle about 2 years ago. Horrified to see Fine Wines Limerick now charging €64 for a bottle.

Thanks to everyone taking part in this poll. Seems Redbreast is the winner. Cheers!
