    Looking at a 1.6 HDI

    75000 miles up on it.

    Serviced at

    8k
    18.5k
    31k
    43.5k
    64k
    75k

Does that 20k gap in the middle there make a balls of it?

    All services through main dealer.

Not necessarily, depends on the driving. Is the service interval not 20k on one of these anyway?

**Only realised it's miles, 20k km service interval**

Its 12500 miles. So about 20 k km.

Otherwise, the car seems to be spot on.

And there is no apparent evidence as why it wasn't serviced? I've seen service books not stamped only to find a reciept for the service/parts hidden away within owners manual.

Nope, nothing else showing up for it.

This buying a car business is head wrecking.

Saw a lovely 1.8 TDCI, great history, but with that blasted wet belt and associated costs.

I'd honestly be wary enough of a 20k service interval, that engine does not tolerate abuse well. However, in saying that, it's probably okay if it's running good now and has had a service or two between that.

There is plenty of cars out there so you can afford to be picky.

    It is an English car.

There are lots of cars out there, but finding good ones is easier said than done.

I looked at a fairly fresh Focus the other day with a full 3 inches of oil above the max on the dipstick.

A lot of used cars in Ireland are UK imports, which doesn't bother me in the slightest, but many of them brought in have had a hard life. Cars in good nick make great money here.

I'm inclined to go off to the UK myself for one and this HDI was one I spoke to a dealer about over there today. There are a few more I am following up on as well.

I have phoned a good few service depts over there about various cars are they generally seem extremely helpful in giving history about cars not in their stock.

Is that wet belt a balls of a job on a 1.8 Mondeo? Saw one of them and spoke to the service manager in the Ford garage where it was serviced and he reckoned it was in great nick.

Well the interval is 20k km I have a focus 1.6tdci and I personally wouldn't leave it that long. But then you won't find many cars that would be consistently serviced before the recommended interval. I service mine every 10k km.

The service intervals on the 1.6 hdi has been brought back to 15k kms from 20k kms due to issues with these engines.
These engines are fine once they are serviced within there service intervals and the correct grade of oil is used.

I use 5w/30 fully syn low saps/low ash oil and never had a problem...:)

OP...that service history seems fine so if you do go for it and keep the service intervals within 15k kms then you should be fine.

Even with a 20,000 mile gap in the middle?

Had a closer look at the history on this.
    10k, 17.5k, 30k, 42.5k, 64.5k and 76k

It is actually 22k miles between two of the services. Think I'll pass.

Are the 2.0 HDIs a good bet? Common problems?

Maybe it was serviced but not documented....Or maybe some were documented but never got a service....Who's to know!!

The 2.0's are a different beast altogether and Tbh are a great engine.
Just be pre-paired to suffer little on mpg's compared to the 1.6 hdi.

I wouldn't go near it. I have a 407 1.6hdi myself and 20k miles is way too long without the oil etc being done, maybe the last owner did some home DIY on the car
