Stem and Handlebars regular replacements

Just found this (safety) advise on the website.

Do you change your stems and bars that often? I would have to go through three sets of stems, handlebars and bar tapes per annum. That is more than the number of chains or pairs of tyres or sets of brake pads I use per year. It would make my annual bike service bill looking, well... more silly than it is at present ;).

I know safety is important, but do these parts fatigue to the level that they should be replaced regularly?

What am I, made of stems?

This is an excellent reason to buy carbon fibre handlebars. I've crashed my Zipp ones a couple of times and they haven't snapped yet. Some day I'll take a peek under the bar tape. :pac:
