I have moved into a house where the attic tank fill can be heard very loudly.
I haven't been up there to see the setup but is there a fill valve I can fit that will be quieter?

You may need something like this.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/251037409367?lpid=83&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=83&ff19=0
The water runs down the plastic tube rather then "falling" into the bottom of the tank from the valve which makes the racket. If you are on a well fed system make sure you have a filter in the line as they do not like a muck build up. While you are doing it fit an isolating valve in the feed pipe by the tank.
Make sure it is all lagged properly.

or buy yourself a penny ice pop and use the bag in the same way as above. :P

If your going to use one of those then make sure you fit a NRV on the mains water pipe feeding the ballcock, to prevent siphonage in case of a leak

No need for a NRV. It is a collapsible plastic tube so it cannot syphon anything - they aready thought of that.

I'd still fit one, if water can go through one side of the plastic tube then there's a chance that it could go back up it, only a couple of quid, why take the chance.
