Smaller Tuffmac & Murphy trailers

I've been asked for opinions on Tuffmac and Murphy(cow box) trailers, 8x5 / 10x5 size. There's a man in the UK interested in buying one from Ireland.

My own input, as the ould fella has an 8x5 Murphy Aerlite is that it's a very capable well made trailer. It does tow a bit easier full than empty. We've had no issues to report with our one.

I've no experience with Tuffmac, Porter or the like.

    Views appreciated :)

Oh yes, would anyone know roughly how much it would cost to transport a trailer from Ireland to the UK?

Put a tuffmac beside your own trailer lad and you'l soon see the difference. Tuffmac are cheaper in everyway.

I looked at a tuffmac before bought the aerlite. They were 2800 against 3300. They are a few inches longer. This is where a tuffmac's pluses end....

But they are very light. Have only one braked axle, an avonride as opposed to a Bradley hitch. There's more vents than aluminium sheet on the sides. Look at the riveting.....

The ramp isn't up to much either and has sluice pens to close. Not a great job as if you pack with cattle and they force sides out a fraction, pens may not line up and you won't be able to close ramp!

Is your trailer bumpy when empty? I would suggest you make sure all 4 wheels are pumped to 40psi. She should float along as you are loosing out on the main benefit of the aerlite 8x5 trailer. .... having indespension axles as opposed to springs on it's competitors.

It's easy turn out a 500euro cheaper trailer if you cut corners on quality.

Tell your friend to buy a jim Murphy. He won't regret it!
