Well lads, I have 3K and need to get myself sorted with a van. I see a few nice transit connects on donedeal going for 3K and some under. Obviously they are all around 05 and 04 would I be mad getting one of these, like would there still be much life left in her or will it need scrapping in a year or two..??

That would depend entirely on the particular van. Some will have plenty of years left in them as they were minded. Others would be wrecked. You need to find a well minded one which is a difficult feat with vans as most not all are wrecked by that age.

Your options are a Berlingo, Partner, Kangoo, Transit or Caddy.

The Berlingo's and Partner's are very popular around where I live. A friend has a Transit and likes it.

Thats a nice looking van alright. Looks like it had a bit of a tip there above the drivers front wheel.

I hear the kangoos arent that good, and I picked transit over caddy because I was told the transit is a nicer driver and nicer around the edges. Dont know much berlingos.. What do people on here think of them?

They're all much the same really. And I wouldn't write off the kangoo either. Pick a clean, well looked after one from one of the ones mentioned above and go with that.

For what it's worth, I drove a ex-post Kangoo for a while and I really liked it. Nice little van. 1.5l Diesel was a nice little engine too, decent poke for a van.

Actually from what I gather and having driven a connect and my mate having had a Caddy, the Caddy is nicer, more comfy and has more toys, but the Connect is tougher and sturdier.
Beware the post '08 TDCI engine as it has an oil immersed timing belt that has a 200k km service interval but will go after half that.
Other than that, the Connect us fairly tough and can handle nearly a ton. Connect any day.
Wouldn't trust anything French as far as I'd throw it.

Transit connect at the money and age you are thinking of buying at i would not recommend, i know a few people who have them and its one break down after the next, now there are of course people who have them and might have very good luck with them, VW caddy be far superior van.

Getting some great info here lads. I had a look at the Kangoos and there seems to be some nice ones floating about.

Can I ask ye lads...Im not going to post a link.... new account and all dont want you thinking Im plugging a certain add.. but emm theres an awful lot of green vans about and look to be in great shape. They dont happen to be ex Post Office vans are they? And would it cost much to get it sprayed?

Most of them would be ex-post vans I would imagine. The one I had in work was. Depends on what it was used for, they can be bargains. Not worth spraying a 3k van though; your looking at near a 1000 for a respray and not a very good one at that.

Ours barely had a scuff in the load bay and was fitted with a heavy duty clutch and had reams of service history. It was cheap too.

Hmmm what about wraps... Im just after seeing them on youtube.. would it be expensive to get that done? Call me a snob, but I just really couldn't hack looking at that green colour every day. It would put me insane.

BTW I have been doing some thinking and basically what everyone said here is right. I need to up my budget so gonna go into the credit union on monday morning and see is there any chance they'll give me a 2K loan. So it will bump my budget up to 5K.

Have a look at the Fiat Doblo too, they are quite a good van but the 1.3l diesel is not suitable for everyone.
