Its banned from all areas. Even if it comes on from an external station the students have to turn that station off.

This a mad decision? Something similaf was done on campuses in wee bonny scotland. What do you think?

Song entered the charts like 6 months ago.... If this is the current rate of feminist progression then guys can safely continue to enjou the pay gap.

Banning 'art' is never a good thing, even ****e like Robin Thicke's song.

The Streisand Effect from this is ironic and amusing, the eejits trying to get this song banned are instead giving it a new lease of publicity at an age (since release) when a song in general would be starting to fade from people's thoughts :D

On the other hand, f*ck the mindset behind these bans. Trying to advance a "rights" movement by attempting to impose restrictions on free speech is a great way of pissing off a whole bunch of people at once, but not much else.

Would be funny to set up big speakers on the roof and blare it on a loop.

Never understood the controversy over this song. It's no worse than the average rap song.

What exactly is the message in that song that people want it banned ? I read the lyrics but unfortunately I'm not fluent enough in moron to understand what's actually being said.

I think it might also have something to do with all the naked breasts in the video.
I'll admit I'm not quite sure about that though. Every time i watch the video I lose track of what is in the song and my mind fades into a lovely breast induced stupor.

The blurred lines in the song refer to the girl (hottest bitch in the place) cheating on her boyfriend with the "singer". He is struggling to justify not having sex with her. The problem is that many people interpret the blurred lines to be the lines between consensual and non consensual sex. So they think the song is about rape.

He also at one point says "tear your ass in two" as a lyric, which sounds like violent sex. But it's a campus that hasn't banned porn...

This is what happens when you give the type of person who runs for student union any sort of power, they never had friends or fun before they went to college now they have a massive chip on their shoulder because we allow them to form groups.

I just thought the song was a catchy number, didn't pay much intrest in the words, like most songs ...

The ban even extends to when the song is played on external radio stations, with an order that the station must be “changed immediately”.

hahaha.. such fcuking retards. And these people actually see themselves as being 'progressively minded'! This **** wouldn't be out of place in some backwash Islamic hellhole.. well done feminism.

The other guy in the video does just a little bit more than that SU

Pharrell Williams is giving back to his hometown of Virginia Beach by building a $35 million resource center for area children.

Ah now, I agree that it's stupid to ban it, and that it's no worse than a million other songs but
    I hate these blurred lines
    I know you want it

    I hate them lines
    I know you want it
    I hate them lines
    I know you want it
    But you're a good girl
    The way you grab me
    Must wanna get nasty

    Go ahead, get at me

One thing I ask of you
Let me be the one you back that ass to
Go, from Malibu, to Paris, boo
Yeah, I had a bitch, but she ain't bad as you
So hit me up when you pass through
I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two
Swag on, even when you dress casual
    I mean it's almost unbearable
In a hundred years not dare, would I
Pull a Pharside let you pass me by
Nothing like your last guy, he too square for you
He don't smack that ass and pull your hair like that

So I just watch and wait for you to salute
    But you didn't pick
Not many women can refuse this pimpin'
I'm a nice guy, but don't get it if you get with me

Shake the vibe, get down, get up
Do it like it hurt, like it hurt
    What you don't like work?

Definite creepy vibe to the song tbh, the "I know you want it" line is the one people have most trouble with, the whole song is pretty much "you're saying you don't want to have rough sex with me, but I know better". Though still yeah, stupid to ban it

Jays' 'tis awful sad to see, isn't it?
    That's right that's right that's right that's right
Ah jays' 'tis awful sad. AH 'tis awful sad.
    That's right that's right that's right that's right

I had thought it was about rough sex, no worse than a lot of lyrics you'd hear in rap music tbh, banning is OTT. It's a terrible song however.

Have you actually listened to the lyrics of the song? They are hugely mysogynistic. But then again when you use phrases like 'retard feminists', it is probably your thing.

Why people. Censorship gone mad. Plenty of song with plenty of potential to offend. How about a certain track by the prodigy "Smack my ***** up"
Sure it's an old one but why stop at one song. How exactly do they expect to police such a ban. Will one have share their earphone with campus security to confirm compliance. Leave front door open in any on campus accommodation to ensure none of your neighbour are flouting this ridiculous rule.

I'll presume there's a distinction between 'retard feminists' and 'not retard feminists' seeing as otherwise that's a tautology, so at least he's not totally against feminism :)

I remember the SU when i was in college being a joke. When the SU elections were held each year it just turned into a massive popularity contest. It reminded me of that episode of the Simpsons where Bart runs for class president against Martin.

Not surprised this silly ban coming from a SU member. Only gives the song more attention than it deserves.

I remember it being a tiny popularity contest that was blown out of all proportion, with something like 10% of students voting, if even. Gobdaws practicing for the county council.
