Right lads been useing a toshiba laptop and a Hercules RMX for a few years and looking at buying a Mac book and a new midi controller my question is whats the best midi controller around at the moment. I vary from traktor too virtual dj depending on where I'm giggin so I don't want one thats tied too just a certain program

I haven't used this, but it's well reviewed and it isn't tied to just one program. I've used other Denon products before and I've always been impressed with their performance and build quality.

It's €379 on Thomann, including free delivery. That's pretty good.

That looks good might look further into it. The pioneer xdj r1 looks a serious piece of kit too be fair

I currently have a denon mc6000 but hope to upgrade to the aero xdj r1soon but only for the extra CD ffunctionality. The 6000 is a very nice piece of gear and its built like a tank too.

The cd USB function is very handy. €999 is steep but thats essentially 2 CDJs and pioneer djm and midi all in one

The Kontrol S2/S4 are a great piece of kit (Traktor is the most reliable and stable DJ software around, its also a breeze to use once you get the hang of it) and can be got for a decent price on the preowned market now.

It's an excellent unit if you want to play from USB/CD as well. But make sure it's what you need. Personally, if I simply wanted a midi controller I wouldn't be spending that kind of money.

Vestax vci 400 is also a class piece of kit, mappable to any program, great build quality and very portable.

Some of the new pioneer controllers look the business but you might struggle to get them into some of the booths depending on where you play. Op the rmx2 is out now as well, improved sound card and the same build quality and reliability as it's predecessor, it's seriously good value for money unless there is some reason you need a major upgrade. For most djs I think it is more than adequate, a lot of people spend big money upgrading aimlessly.

DDJ SX without a doubt if you can get used to Serato .. You wont regret it! If not then definetly the XDJ R1.

The sx looks great but I do video djin and need virtual dj as a result. Thats maken me lean towards the R1. Does the r1 support Serato does any one know?

The sx can be mapped to work with VDJ quite easily, there is a mapper available on the VDJ website. Most controllers can be mapped to any program so I'd presume the r1 can work with serato.

But isn't that a 3rd party mapper and not an official map??

Feedback is that it works fine, if it was me I'd probably go for the r1 though. The denon dn-mc6000 or vci 400 would also be great choices for video work and will work out of the box with VDJ if you are not into mapping.

Ill fiddle around with the maps of course but don't want too set the entire thing up. I reckon itll be the R1 my local rental place have a show room upstairs and they have the aero , r1 and Serato one all in there and he said I can use them all before I decide

I took the plunge any ways and bought the R1 haven't had time too sit down and set up rekord box yet or even fully map it out too virtual dj either. Anyone else here have the R1?

Doesn't it have native support for VDJ, it ships with VDJ le as far as I know so you shouldn't have to map it, maybe a few tweaks at most. Do you have an iPad or iPhone, the remote box feature looks cool but not sure I'd fully trust it to play out live. Class controller though enjoy it.

Most features work with vd7pro but just one or two sound effects and the search function don't seem too be mapped properly. Yup I have an iPhone and have downloaded the app but haven't gotten around too setting it up yet
