Hi all, im looking to source a double sided stainless steel axe for my log cutting, I have seached the internet but mostly getting up hatchets and fantasy/medevil crap. I want a good solid over the head swinging type for log cutting. I want the stainless steel one. Any links would be greatly appreciated and the more ocall the better. Thanks.

What's the advantage of a double edged axe? Do you have a different taper on each side?

My own experience with log splitting is a balance between weight & stamina. Heavier head splits better but more tiring etc. Wedges are handy or even old axe heads, for hammering in to relieve the pressure, when the damned thing gets stuck!

Unrelated but best bit of kit for firewood I got in recent years is this http://www.sawchain.co.uk/acatalog/Oregon_easy-cut_saw_horse.html

Not really an outdoor pursuit though! More like hard work :)

I've split plenty of timber in my time and find the best tool for the job is a mattock, or a splitting maul as I see them called (link below)

It has the weight and power and rarely sticks like an axe.

I don't see the advantage of stainless either.

Why an axe ? double sided or stainless steel
Chainsaws and splitting mauls make things a lot quicker if only for one or maybe two houses .
Anymore than that a log splitter is money well spent I think.

+ 1 for a log splitter. A 5-ton hydraulic electric one will set you back the guts of €250.00, but you will pick up a second-hand cheaper.

Its hard to beat this axe

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fiskars-122500-Spaltaxt-X27/dp/B004J46YY4

The way the head is designed never gets stuck in the log, light and handle is virtually unbreakable.

Cant see a reason to buy double headed axe either. Are you throwing them or something;)

If you are still looking for the double sided axe, you could have a look at youtube, search for "Wranglerstar"

He has a Saeger Chemical 1929 axe on one of his videos. Or find an axe you like, buy two and weld them together, if you're brave!

Stainless steel can be hard to put a good edge on, by the way.

    Something like this?

Take a root through this site anyway, top of range gear. Some of the axes in the "ANCIENT AXES" tab are serious looking weapons!

Went For this one lads http://www.gransforsbruk.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/490-1-produktinfo.jpg

I spotted it the other night as-well as "Bisum" and although its not exactly what my brother asked for in so far as its not "stainless steel" it is pretty cool and rough looking even medevil which i personally love. Its a Christmas pressie for him and i thing he will kinda like the fact that he can hone his learn throwing skills and also knock a few pounds off swinging it for his 14 tone of fire wood he got off coilite.

It may help your search to use the correct term, it is called a double bit axe, good luck.

    P.S.
Stainless steel ones will be pretty rubbish if I were you I'd get a real carbon steel one and keep it polished and oiled if the "shiney" look is needed.
