What are they like? Has any one here had one or the 1.7 around the year 2005?

But the op is talking about Astras. Op I had that model astra and liked it. The 1.7 astra is known to be very reliable and probably would be not ultimately more reliable than a 1.9. Not that the 1.9'is a bad engine. If going for the 1.9 go for the 120bhp over the 150 less issue afaik. Did they even sell 1.9 Astras in Ireland in 05 or is this car English.

They are but just keep in mind they will make less when you go to sell it on. But if you intend keeping it for a few years it shouldn't make a difference.

just watch out for the 6 speed gearbox. bearings are known for going in them as little as 40k on the clock. but then some go for 100k without any problems.
