Macbook Pro Late 2013 Recommendation

    Hi,

I was thinking of getting a Macbook Pro late 2013 model with the new haswell processors. I would mainly be using the laptop for college ( word processing , powerpoint, internet surfing etc). The great battery life with decent performance is a strong reason for considering this laptop. Has anyone used the new MBP's and have any positive/negative views on them? Any advice on whether 13" screen is big enough or is the 15" screen a better option? I dont plan on using the laptop for photoshop.
    Thanks

Sounds like the 2013 MacBook Air would suit you more for your needs. Offers excellent battery life, the performance is more than good enough for what you say you need it for & it's more portable than the Pro.

Yeah I know what you mean but i think the air is too small to use as a full time laptop , plus the retina display is a nice feature of the MBP

Aye, the Air does sound more appropriate for your requirements, OP. Though there's little price difference between the 128GB Air and the introductory model MacBook Pro so if you anticipate any high-end application use after college the Pro might be more suited with it's connectivity options, larger HD, etc.

mate has the new macbook pro (retina) and its a fantastic machine.
No DVD rom in it so it's a lot slimmer etc.

Have the 13" 2013 Air myself, great machine for browsing, word etc.
Battery life really is fantastic, could get all day out of it just browsing and on iTunes etc.
Fan does get very loud if you intend on playing any games, FM, Sim City, The Sims, on any other setting than low.

I was looking at the benchmarks for the 2.4gz i5 haswell processors, they have half the score of CPUs like i7-4702MQ processor in an equivalently priced toshiba. Would the different in performance be that noticeable?

Yes. One is a Toshiba and one is a Mac.

difference in performance , not brand dip****

Macs don't come preloaded with bloatware, so yes, there is a difference in performance.

The essence of this answer is that specs only matter a little when it comes to user experience, and you'll get a much better user experience on a Mac.

For what you want the Air is perfectly suitable, but the price difference of the intro MBP isn't too different so probably go for that.

The SSD & long battery life & better portability of the MBA should make it a better option over the entry level MBP for him unless he needs more than 128GB of storage or the faster processor.
