I seem to have a problem where I am not being sent my motor tax renewal letters. The last time I had to renew my car tax I got a “Final Reminder” and had to pay a months back tax. Just assumed I had not seen the letter. However, the same thing happened with my motorbike tax a few months later. Now I know my car tax is up again this month and I have not had a letter? What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks

Mine too, but I think that only happens if you renew online and give them your email address?

    Maybe someone can confirm?

I just searched my gmail and there it was. I must have missed it amongst the spam. I did not know they had done this! Now that I know its a good thing really. A second reminder would not hurt though - no challenge with email...

have another dig around your gmail. I got several of these mails in the month coming up to renewal. (just looked it up, I got 3, one of the beginning of the month, one halfway through and one at the end of the month.)

They're being sent from :Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport

You can now also retrieve your renewal pin from the website which is pretty handy.

They have a new system in place.
At the start of your tax period they send you this circular piece of paper with a date on it.

You simply put it in your windscreen and renew it before it ends. Simple system to check too, you just look at it :D

I lost my renewal letter with my online PIN on it, I was able to get the PIN resent to me by logging into the motor tax website and asking for it to be sent to my email.
Got pin within seconds, logged on, paid tax, sorted!
Isn't it amazing just how efficient the Irish state apparatus can be when they want money of you? :pac:

Yeh I keep getting them too, much handier for me as I tend to lose letters.

If you are renewing online, at the start they ask you if you prefer to receive future communications via email including renewal reminders. This box is ticked by default unless you un-tick it you will no longer receive reminders in the post. The tax disc itself should tell when it expires.

The first time I got an email notification I got about 4 emails in the space of a fortnight. I was actually considering deleting my address from the system as they were basically spamming me. Thankfully its calmed down since then.

if anything the new email method should mean that paying more for 3 and 6 month periods should now be less.

i think the excuse was "more paperwork"

They've done that ever since I switched to email notification, I find it quite useful tbh

Yeah same here, once I deciphered that it wasn't spam!
Much easier to do things by email and online than by post or in council/tax offices!
