I'd a call today from ICBF to see if I was interested in this. There mustn't have been much interest as they've completely relaxed the criteria. Anyone in it? What bulls are in it?

Wondered about this before, is it female sexed semen for the purposes of reproduction only or can you also get make sexed semen, say for the likes of pedigree men to produce bulls, or even just for use on commercial cattle for those that prefer to have bulls/bullocks?

    Both .
There are maternal and terminal sires available .
At about twice the price of the same bull not sexed .
With a lower conception rate too

straws are from dovea and ncbc. However you can get them sent to a bova/abs/eurogene technitician no bother. Its ICBF running the trial

That sexed semen doesn't stand up atall on cow's lads. U might have some chance with a heifer. The semen itself is very weak after the treatment. Ands some bulls can't b sexed atall.

Goods results coming out of dairy trial and some posters on here talk favourably of it.

Very poor conception rates when used on cow's. Heifers might not b to bad.

im going to give it a go on my heifers for the winter gerd. If it works it'll be brilliant.

Are you using any sexed straws JD ???
I had a few CWI calves last autumn .
Kept a heifer , and sold two bull calves back in Sept .
Heifer is coming good , and the bulls were nice weaners but nothing too special.

Found them a little flighty but once they were getting meal they quietened soon enough ..

    Some good bulls there
Has anyone an APZ heifer, how did she do?
Tempted to use CQA on a second calver,
this maybe a better option (even with lower conception rates)

I don't think I'll bother. You've to take 50% sexed and 50% conventional. Sexed straws they are hoping will be 75% sucessful so for every 8 straws you should get 5 of the sex you want. The sexed straws are also €30 each and there is that issue with lower conception rates. It's hard enough get a high CR with sucklers without it.

Having said that they will supply you with the fertility drugs for synchronising cows (through you're vet). Could be good to get them cycling and ready for service at 42 days.

APZ and LGL would the my pick of what's available. If you're into Angus the terminal bull looks good

I've a APZ heifer weanling out of a poor cow which was culled becasue of it. Given the cow she's out of it's hard to judge the weanling. Having said that I'm holding onto her as a replacement and she's a better animal than her cow.
