I know that after the one year pilot program was completed they got an extra 3 months while the Powers that be assess it's efficiency. Has there been any word on what is to happen?

    This too shall pass.

I wonder has this got anything to do with it...

Posted on th IRCG facebook page earlier this week.

The Irish Coast Guard's rescue helicopter fleet is being utilised on a trial basis as an air ambulance service, as RTÉ's Morning Ireland reports.

The new fleet of Sikorsky S92 choppers will do double duty as a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) network in addition to their usual search and rescue requirements, following a trial period in Shannon that's set to be extended to Dublin shortly.

I'm sure the morning Ireland piece is available to listen to on a podcast or on the rte player ill have a look.

Nice idea to bring them in as long as it doesn't interfere with their primary function of saving souls at sea.

    This too shall pass.

I think they have planned to have 6 helicopters based in Ireland. 4 doing rescue, 1 available for Air Ambo, and another on standby/repair.

There are 5 helicopters. 4 bases and 1 spare. All will be available for HEMS and Air Ambulance (hospital to hospital work) as well as SAR.

I know that this is hearsay but I was talking to soldier in Custume barracks Athlone who told me that medevac 112 is moving to Finner or being taken away from the HSE. They have upgraded the hanger up there. Don't know how true it is but since its out there id put in my 2 cents
