AOL are discontinuing Winamp as of next month Best damn music player I have ever used either on pc or andriod. http://www.winamp.com/media-player/en

Havent ever used anything else, iTune is a heap of shíte in comparison.
Many long gone are the days when films would have their own winamp skin
as part of their launch promotion.

****heads, could they not flog it to someone that could continue it? I've used it since '99.

Audacious / VLC or else for something more fancy Sonata and music player daemon are good enough for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,690 ✭✭✭✭Skylinehead

I will continue to use it in defiance. Best media player out there still, despite AOLs best efforts to ruin it.

That was my first thought when I saw the thread title. Winamp (and AOL for that matter) still exist????????

Will still use it anyway, have version 2.81 still. :) Because newer is not always better.

    Winamp v2.8 forever.

I've yet to use a better music player.

There was an awesome Resident Evil 2 skin for it once.

Used it way back when I had an sgs1.

Yeah, it was OK I suppose.

Question is, if it's all that OP, why the hell would they be dropping it?

    Ask yourself that one ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

I still install it on all my home pcs even though I never really play local media anymore

Surely its community or the open source fairy or something will keep it alive :(

SGS1 as in the Samsung Galaxy? The Android version isn't a patch on the PC version, especially the older ones.

I use the Android app, quite good for a free music player. I'd say somebody would pick it up.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I still use this and I'll keep on using it as long as I can.

Ah those were the days around 10 years ago, finally got broadband so I could download anime and while waiting play my 30GB music collection through WinAMP. It really felt like a big deal back then.

We used to sit and watch the visualisations for ages.

Mediamonkey, a Winamp derivative, is the best media player I have come across having used Winamp for a good chunk of time. I am sure they will continue to develop.

Never used, but AOL aren't renowned for their smart decisions; eg: buying Bebo.

    Foobar2000. Or VLC.

Always thought Winamp was a relic from the millennium

I can't believe people use winamp on their phones. Poweramp ftw.
    PC version was still decent.

Apollo for a classy looking UI or Poweramp for the massive library.

If you're still using a version that was released 10 years ago, what the hell difference does it make to you that they're not going to make any updates?
