    Hey,

Quick question before I go to the Social Welfare office -
I'm working as a teacher, on a part-time pro rata contract - 2 days a week..is it worth my while taking a trip to the social welfare to see if I am 'entitled' to social welfare, or would anybody know if I'm 'entitled'??

    much appreciated

I think you should if you're only doing two days. How many hours are you doing?

    12 hours

Hmmm, I'm not sure with that actually. I assumed you'd be on fewer hours. You meet the normal criteria anyway, but you're still earning a fair bit more than the dole. Give your local office or citizen's advice a ring tomorrow.

If you have the required Prsi contributions worked up you would qualify for JSBenefit which isn't means tested. Therefore apply away :-)
Be aware I had issues in the past with my deciding officer deciding I was not entitled as I was 'paid for week by the dept' .. Load of BS basically but I went through hoops proving my contract was with the school and was for 6 hrs over 3 days and the fact I was paid by the dept was irrelevant. The paperwork is also a b**%# :-)
