Closing up Chimney

Would anyone please recommend someone they've used to do this?

We are happy to have it done permanently as we never plan to use the fire and want to eliminate the draft - if anyone knows the best way to do this, having done/researched this themselves I'd be grateful of advice.

I know this isn't what you asked, but would you not just stuff newspaper up the chimney to block the draft? I would *not* be happy buying a house that had a closed up chimney so it might affect resale value of the house.

When I meant closure - I really meant a chimney balloon or damper. Tyring to find out what the best option is and looking for personal recommendations - too many sights offering a range of dampers.

I was looking for a chimney balloon a few years back for a fireplace that's not in use.... drew a complete blank.... so I got a black sack, filled it with styrofoam bits from something I'd had delivered, sealed it, and stuffed it up the chimney. Worked a treat and was free!

Give Tom Stack in Stack Chimney Services a call (he's based near Skerries).

I used a small beach ball!
I put it up the chimney until it was just below the "pipe" and inflated it with a foot pump.
Works a treat if you have a chimney that narrows just inside.

I stuffed mine with a rolled up piece of fibreglass insulation & then crumpled newspapers. Insulated, but still some level of air circulating & it was cheap as chips.

    Not used this myself...http://www.woodiesdiy.com/Product/Economiser-Chimney-Flue-Balloon/21382/6.3.0#.Uo3ElcTIb70

Not sure though if its any better than prior recommendations...
