Any running groups in Letterkenny training for the Derry marathon on June. Just signed up for my First Marathon and think it would make the long runs a bit easier. Also longest run atm is 12k. Gonna up it by 1 or 2k every Sunday. Also run 8k on tues and thurs. Is this enough training for base training until i start marathon training in Jan or do i need to to be doing more,
All suggestions welcome. Best Marathon plan etc. thinking Hal Novice 2.
Like to do marathon in 3.50 ish, prob should be glad to even finish it.
Training at 5 min per km atm
    Backround:
    32yr male
    Average Build
Have been running 2 years, just 10 and 5ks
    10k 48.00 Pb
    5k 22.30

    Hi Paddy

I was thinking of the Derry marathon also, but there has just been a Letterkenny marathon announced for August 24. This one suits me better actually for the other runs I had planned.

If you are thinking of Derry I'd suggest a doing 2 base runs per week for now till the end of January. I was doing 1.5 to 2.5 hours on Sundays at 2 mins per mile slower than mp and about 1 to 1.5 hours at the same pace on Wednesdays (I'm doing them atm by heart rate and keeping it below 140bpm). Tuesday and Thursday are a mix of LT runs and some hilly runs which act as kind of interval work. Then start with the hal higdon plan on the last week of Jan.

I am going to stick to the above routine now anyway until mid Jan I'd say, probably doing the Atlantic Drive 12k on new years day as a tune up race. Then the schedule will be the Cara Bundoran 10 mile on March 1st, then Omagh half at the end of March, and the letterkenny 10k in may. That leaves a decent 3 months to build up for the letterkenny marathon in Aug.

Just found out about Letterkenny marathon today, would prefer to do this as my first as it's my local. Dunno whether it be possible to do derry in June and Letterkenny in August. Longest run is 15k ATM. Have pie and signed up for derry but. Tough decisions.
