Hey guys, I have a 318D 2009 and due to some (beneficial) circumstances I may be looking to upgrade to a 5 series in the near future.

The car has an almost full service history from main dealers (one was done with an indy) and has just passed it's first NCT without issue this morning.

it has 115Km, (71K miles) on the clock and black leather interior.

What would i be looking at for a private sale?

(i dont have pics handy right now)

    Sorry ES (the basic one)

But the gear stick and steering wheel have the Msport badge :pac:

I'd usually check DD and/or carzone and price mine at the lower end of average.

If using Carzone, remember it is mostly dealers so you'd need to knock a bit off for a private sale.

Also worth seeing what you'd get as a trade-in against a 5 series.

I know a lot of people here prefer/recommend the private sale route, but unless there was a massive difference you might be better off going the trade-in route unless you have the time/patience to deal with the time wasters, dreamers, and "what's your best price?" opening text/conversation nonsense.

You also won't have to deal with people looking for (or imagining) faults to try and get you down a bit more on price, or (as you see posted here all the time) the chancers looking for their money back a few days later cause they broke something etc

For me, the option to NOT have to deal with all that would be worth losing a few extra quid on the sale value.. but that's me :)

A few quid perhaps. But on an 09 car a dealer will take a few thousand not a few quid off what you would get on a private sale.
Certainly do your research though, pop down to a few dealers like on the naas road and see what the cost to change is for you on a '5er and see if it would cost much to forego a private sale

Did these come with the 2.0 diesel with the timing chain issues btw?

Yep, I've looked at a few garages around that have 5 series for sale, so I'll pop down to them at the weekend to see what the cost to change is.

I'd say you would get around €13500 to €14000 for it.

Private, trade-in figures can and are distorted to appear favorable depending on what you are trading it in against and what price is on the other car, when trading in concentrate on the cost to change price.
