Gaming mouse/pad

I'm looking for a proper gaming mouse and pad. Any thoughts on the Logitech g500s or g600? No idea about mouse pads, but I don't like ultra-slippery (where the mouse won't sit still). Not concerned about stores or deals, just opinions on which mouse you like. Is the 1000Hz / 8000 dpi stuff worth it?

And what about the gaming keyboards? I'm just re-using a regular dell keyboard from and old pc. Seems fine but I've never tried any of the mechanical switch stuff. I think they have ones which are basically mini-keyboards with just the w/s/a/d key region - anybody try those?

I'm interested in the mini-keyboards because horizontal space is tight. I have my fullsize keyboard/mouse on a pull-out keyboard tray so there's only about 6-8 inches of width for the mouse to move. I tried putting the mouse on the desk to get more room but it's uncomfortably high. So anything which works well in that amount of space is a plus. Right now I end up picking up the mouse a lot when I need to do big turns.

I got one of these myself and love it. Amazing mouse for the price. I got the black rubber coated version though which they have replaced with the 2000b.

I have no idea how that compares but i noticed amazon have updated the reviews for the 2000 for the 2000b so pay no heed to these. Those reviews are for the older model.

There is also the sharkoon drakonia which is a rebranded version of the same mouse.

To be honest 5400 dpi is already too much. You will never go near 8000. The perixx has 1000mz polling rate as well. They also do 8000 dpi mice for around €30.

If you want a big mat that will fit your keyboard and mouse you could grab one of these. You can get bigger ones that will fill the whole desk or just stick with a regular mouse mat :)

If you want a compact entry level mechanical board you could get one of these. It doesn't use cherry switches though but the price is great and the size is good. You lose the numpad which is a waste of space for most people anyway. It does have some issues that will bother some people though so read the reviews and see what you think.

The thought of 30e mouse pad scares me... ;)

Looking at these ones now. It's from Amazon U.S., I'll be over there for a bit soon.

I agree about the silly prices for mouse pads, but my desk seems to build up residue that causes sticking. Still not sure if I should go for the hard/slick plastic type or grabbier fabric types.

Thanks for the suggestions. Had a look at the G700, looks nice but I don't need the extra buttons or wireless so I'll stick with the 500s. They both look sweet compared to what I have now, 12 year old MS intellimouse with 400 dpi. Went for the logitech G440 pad as well. Silly price but it looks like it will last until the end of time.

Haven't had a chance to really try it out yet while I'm on the road. I'll see how I like it and post back next week.

theres no better mouse than a Razor Deathadder :)
very like the legendary MS IE 3.0 except a bit weightier.

Second shout for Deathadder here, paired it up with a Razer Goliathius which is a top mouse mat. The combo together is staggering and really impressive.

Just as impressive is the bundles Steelseries are doing for a Siberia headset, Sensai mouse, QCKmat for €149.99. They are the new LED Headsets aswell, tempted by those packages since I need a new headset since my current Siberias broke.

Assuming its for gaming I'd go with either the Razer Deathadder or Steelseries Sensai for your mouse
Razer Goliathius or Steelseries Qckmat for your mousemat.

They are the two best in each category by a longshot. However it can be down to preference hene why you sometimes see some unothradox stuff appear

    this.

Ive had a deathadder, and mamba, and naga.
a few logitech and one or two other brands

every time I go back to the naga, have the wireless one right now paired with a saitek cyborg game pad, although its old so ill up grade to a nostromo next.

I choose the naga cos it fits in my hand much more comfortable than any other mouse ive used. I loved the other razer mouse and was really impressed with the performance, but I could never get comfortable so it became painful after any reasonable length of time.

I also used the steel series gaming keyboard, with the extra set of ergonomic keys built on the left side, became so much more natural to play with keys under your fingertips rather than having to twist and turn to reach them.

Using the naga and the gaming pad you can sit in a 100% comfortable position. with limited desk space, or no space at all. ( i have the razer metal mouse mat)
plus I have a sick amount of keybinds at within touching distance. I think the razer is 54 binds and the pad is another 60 ish.

Most important feature is that I can sit comfortably and dont have to strain ligaments to reach the keys.

id advise getting hold of a few different mice with the specs you like and then pick the most comfortable.

    Finally got the goodies home...

Very happy so far with all of them. The price for the 440 mouse pad is a bit insane but it's the first mouse pad I actually prefer to a bare desk surface. With the G500s mouse the smoothness and precision is unbelievable. Loving the mouse too, but my opinion probably doesn't mean much since my previous mouse was from the stone age.
