    1. What is your budget? About €500

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Will be using the computer for only gaming and Skype audio calls as I have a Macbook Pro for all my other needs.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Nope. I have a copy of Windows 7.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I will be keeping my HDDs, I have 8Gbs of Ram. I also have a HD5670.

    5. Do you need a monitor? No mine is perfect.

5a. If yes, what size do you need?

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future?

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? None

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

    8. How can you pay? Can pay by visa, mastercard

    9. When are you purchasing? Within the next month

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? No help needed.

The thing about this build is I would like to do it in stages. First stage maybe upgrading PSU, mobo and CPU with this €500 and when I get more cash upgrading GPU and anything else needed.

I would also be needing a case, nothing fancy, just cheap as It will be placed tweet the side of my desk and the wall and cannot be seen.

    Any help would be great!

What are you upgrading from? You could get a nice complete system now for that money.

    Something like this.

    Item|Price
    Intel Core i5-4570 Box, LGA1150|€169.75
MSI B85-G41 PC Mate, ATX, Sockel 1150|€66.43
    MSI R7870-2GD5T/OC, 2048MB DDR5, PCI-Express|€154.42
    Cooler Master N300, ATX-Midi-Tower, schwarz, ohne Netzteil|€34.70
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€444.29

Have to get the psu from Amazon as HWVS stock is low atm on those. You will get a 3 pin plug at least from Amazon. €52

Bloodbath, I see you recommend the 7870, which would be better the 7870 or the R9 270 for about 10 euro more? :)

The 270x is a rebadged 7870 so there's not much in it. It comes higher clocked and should overclock a little more so the 270x is better. It depends what cooler is on the card more than anything.

What would i be able to get in the line of complete builds? I heard it works out cheaper if you build yourself?

I meant you don't have to space out buying the parts. You could get everything you need now for that budget.

You can still go ahead with your original plan if you wanted to get the overclockable 4670k with a z87 board and a decent cpu cooler and put off getting a graphics card until later.

What are the rest of your current specs like?

I would need everything new apart from RAM and HDD but if I was holding off with GPU I could try get by with the one I have

Well the above build is still going to play most games on or near max settings at 1080p especially with an overclock on the card.

You won't be able to overclock the cpu but it's a very good cpu even without overclocking.

Would there be any benefit of going for a AMD CPU to save on money and getting a better GPU and also would that PSU be powerful enough to be able to run two GPU in the future?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Yes and no. Some games are cpu limited and would perform worse on the amd. Others that can make use of all of the cores could perform better. It's hit and miss. You won't even save much taking the costs of a better board and cpu cooler into account.

The psu won't run 2 high end cards no. The board doesn't support it either.

If you're looking to do that then maybe just grab a 4670k with an Asrock z87 extreme 4 board, a cm 212 evo cpu cooler, a be quiet system power 7 700w psu and you have about €60 left for a case of your choice. You would have to put off the graphics card/s until later then.
