Strengthening Weakened Teeth

    Hi there,

I have extremely week teeth, and Im looking for some form of treatment in order to make them stronger.

I'm using pro-enamel toothpaste, and my dentist isn't overly concerned - But I think this is more due to the fact, that the don't offer any services to strengthen weaken teeth.

A friend of mine down the country gets a fluoride treatment applied ever 6 months when she gets her regular check-up.

Does anyone know of any similar treatments I could get in any dental practices in North Dublin/Louth area - Thanks.

Fluoride varnish is readily available in any dental practice. APF gel application is less common. Fluoride promotes remineralisation of demineralised enamel. It doesnt strengthen teeth per say.

Hi Fitzgeme, I never even heard of fluoride varnish or APF gel for that matter. The only thing my dentist informed me that I could try is to get a high Fluoride toothpaste from any pharmacy.

What Ill do now is ring the dentist and query the options the provide, and if the don't offer these services, which I really don't think the do, I will ring around to a find a dentist who does. Many thanks.

The high flouride toothpastes are excellent, and if used consistently can drastically reduce the caries risk of patients prone to high amounts of decay.

Fitzgeme, what toothpaste would you recommend, can I just buy them in any pharmacy?

All good toothpaste has fluoride, however there are a few super high strength one for people at specific decay risk. They are prescription only, and your dentist can judge if you need them or not.

I started using them in my practice a few years back, and have found them useful.
