    Hey,

With winter upon us I'm looking into getting a turbo trainer. Plenty of options to choose from, but would anyone have any recommendations in the €150-200 range?

    Cheers in advance.

Wheelworx have (or had - not sure) a sale on last week.
I bought a Tacx Blue Motion for 195 with another 10% off.

It is what the old Tacx Sartori was.

A fine basic turbo with plenty of resistance options.

LOL I would buy a big fan first (Joke or maybe NOT)
Keep an eye on Adverts or Donedeal for a good Tacx I got a t2200 like new for 260 and love it but by god will you be wet after using it .

Got a good deal from a shop in fermoy in Cork but next question is where to get a cheap nine speed wheel as you need a different skewer when useing the turbo way too much hassle to change everytime you want to do a turbo session. Would it be a good idea to get a new 9 speed cassette for my current wheel and put the current cassette on a cheap wheel any ideas??

To the best of my knowledge there's nothing stopping you from using the skewer for the turbo in normal day to day use, but more concerning to me would be that the turbo would also need a different tyre, due to the heat generated wearing through a normal tyre much more quickly. That becomes well worth having another wheel for!

Yes I have factored that in and recently upgraded both tyres to Conti GP 4000s so have my Schwalble tyres that can be used with the trainer again I'm think prob best to have all this set up on another wheel?

I do. I wouldn't like to have to change the tyre every time I want to use the turbo.

I got a 2nd hand Aksium with a decent hub but dead rims from the adverts forum for 30euro IIRC. Perfect for a trainer.

Have a look on the Rose Bikes website, there was a few Tacx Satoris in the special offer section for in around 100 euro mark.

and happy with decision though have to admit I have little to compare it against

Just looking at this one. Have you any more feedback. With the weather outside I'm thinking of purchasing but there are so many different types out there.

    Any help would be great.

No this one is magnetic rather than fluid resistance

Huge number of reviews on wiggle website if I remember correctly. Highlights

    - No lever to adjust resistance, it automatically increases as the roller goes faster and fluid heats up. Just use your own bikes gears.
    - Quiet
    - Pressure on roller dependent on body weight
    - Quick setup

Only negative I see is if you want to simulate steep climbing. As resistance is dependent on wheel speed, even in top gear it is probably difficult to generate very large resistance at 50rpm. I don't use it in this way though and at 90rpm never get near top gear
