My company are applying for an individual petition for an L1b. I work in a large multinational bank in the technology department.

I've been looking online and see that the denial rate has skyrocketed to 27% and am now a little anxious. I was thinking if renting out my place while I'm in the process if applying but now think this may be a really bad idea.

Would love to hear other peoples experiences

Where do you find the denial rate of visa applications ?

It's true in some cases - however a lot of the denials are given to Indians due to missuse of the system - I know 12 people from Europe on the L1 (including me, all in IT) that had no issues, and were surprised at how easy the process was. The only difference I can see is that we all came through on Blanket vs Individual

Yes, I would have thought that blanket L1 applications were almost always approved.

I don't qualify for the blanket petition as I don't have a degree so need to prove that I have specialist knowledge. The stats are online, denial rate of 27% in 2012, it was as low as 6% in 2008 if I remember correctly. Haven't been able to find a breakdown by country.

So stressful not knowing what will happen. Anyone know the turnaround times for approval/denial if my company use priority processing?

    The stats are online...

Would you mind posting the link ?

I think most people here are more familar with L1a where for me at least the turnaround was pretty quick I think but I have no idea when the papers were filed, I just know that I got the visa the day after the embassy visit.

From my perspective it was pretty quick. From starting the process to having the interview and visa in my passport was a little over 1 month for the lawyers to prepare everything. When you go to the interview in the embassy, the decision is already pretty much made.

As for denial rates - when I entered the process with my company and their lawyers, they said outright that because I was european, applying from a european firm into an american affiliate there would be no issues. The high visa denial rates were because some people were playing the system to get in friends and family to the US (ie small company etc)

is mostly about people from the indian subcontinent and far east. I googled and couldn't find anything more specific.

Were you applying via blanket or individual petition? 1 month sounds totally doable, were you asked for more evidence or did you just get straightforward approval outright?

Blanket - My company's lawyers had me fill out pages and pages of information about my position and role etc. They organized everything else.

No other evidence was required from me - but my company has 70000 global employees and on average moves 400 to the US every year, they're pros and knew exactly what was needed to get through.
