    Hi,

I have a car that I got years ago free off someone as trade. I got the car for spare parts.
The person that gave it to me wasnt the owner he had it for the same reason.

Now I am looking to put the car back on the road and I have no Log book and I dont know who the registered owner is.
Any way of getting it into my name and getting a log book.?
Or is there any way of finding out who the registered owner is?

    Thanks

Can the person who gave it to you get in contact with the original owner?

I dont know if its possible to get a log book in this case, but it would be pretty dodgy for Shannon to allow it without the consent of the registered owner (given that the car could have been stolen and given to you).

Maybe a Garda friend could help and look up the car.

You'd want to know them very well.

Can someone in the NCT centre check the owner?

You may need to contact Shannon so and ask them to clarify.

Not legally. It would be against data protection laws.

You can fill out a declaration, get identity of car confirmed by a main dealer, sign declaration in front of commissioner of oaths and apply to Shannon.
They will basically contact registered owner and if no objection, registry car to you.
If a cert of destruction had previously been issued for the car, you would be screwed though.
