PAssword Lock on S2 - cant boot into recovery mode

    Hi,

My daughter inherited my Galaxy S2 when I upgraded to the S4. She put a password lock on it and now cannot remember it. I am trying to do a factory reset on it, but when I boot it up holding the relevant keys, I see the android logo for a second or two, then it boots normally into the password screen.

So I cannot do a factory reset on it. I am holding the volume button, home button and power button.

    Anyone any ideas?

If asking this question is against the forum rules, then I apologise.

    Power down the phone.

Hold the Volume UP + Home buttons then hold the power button without taking pressure off the other buttons and keep them held until its in the recovery menu.

Thanks Jonny, Doing this I get a little logo like a white box with the lid open and an android figure out in front of it. I only see that for a second and it pops to a screen saying "Confirm password". This is a different screen than the password lock she had set.

Right. Reflashed and I can now get into recovery mode. I do a factory reset. I can now get into the phone. Until the first time it goes into idle mode. Then all of a sudden I get the password screen!! Even after a wipe out !!

I flashed a file manager, browse to /data/system. No *.key files exist.

Anyone know how it's possible that after a factory reset the password challenge is still there?

Is there files on the phone you want to save?

When in Odin and flashing a stock Rom tick re-partition. That should wipe the files on the phone.

Thanks for the help. Just to update. Clicking repartition just caused Odin to crash for me (v1.85). I got the official Gingerbread ROM and reflashed. After doing a factory reset, I got another password screen. Entered the wrong password a few times, got a message saying everything would be wiped if I continued. Accepted that and it rebooted and no password !!

It's been educational to say the least ;)

    Thanks again.
