IBAN is the international bank account number and yes, what he is asking you is to transfer money to his account. You have no comeback with a payment like that. PayPal would be safer.

Are you dealing with a company? I am ordering quite a bit from Germany and it is quite common to be asked for advance payment by bank transfer if you are a new customer. I have never had any problems with that and have always received my order. However I was always dealing with reputable companies.

What sum you talking about? Few hundred? Few thousand?
If sum is big then seller do not want to pay paypal % , bank transfer (aka IBAN) is much much cheaper.
Paypal covers you only so much anyway if something goes wrong and it will be very painful process..
IMHO paypal is not the greatest payment processor out there but unfortunately there is no alternative available.
If you are sure that item you bought is in condition you hoping it to be and seller has good rank then go and make your bank transfer (seller will send you his/her IBAN and Swift code)

    Good luck!!!!

The Germans like bank transfer as a means of payment. I buy a lot of items from ebay and notice quite a few that insist on it. Never had a problem.

International direct payments are always processed with IBAN in company I used to work for .

Its normal to give these account numbers , - It should be on your bank statement.

So in your case , the seller will give you his IBAN + BIC , and you do not need to give him your IBAN + BIC code

Yes OP ... IBAN + BIC is perfectly normal in Germany.

Takes around 2-3 working days for payment to go through.
