Redeployment into a career break vacancy

I'm on 22 hours replacing a teacher who is on a career break so I have a 12 month contract and was hopeful that if the teacher doesn't come back next year, I'd be certain of getting another year out of it.

My principal mentioned that he will be declaring the position to the redeployment panel next year though and I could be let go if someone gets redeployed into it.

Is this correct? I mean how could they redeploy a permanent teacher into a vacancy which by its nature is not a permanent vacancy because the original teacher can come back?

I think he has to declare it as your contract is up after 12 months and he has to.look to the panel first to fill it.

Because under redeployment in its current guise if permanent teachers are surplus they can be redeployed into temporary positions (career break, maternity leave etc) as a stop gap and if a vacant position comes up in a school the following year they can then be moved into that. We have a teacher who is permanent but is covering a maternity/parental leave for the last 2 years.

It's not ideal but it makes sense. The permanent teacher will have to be paid whether they have a teaching position or not, so if hours need to be filled even if it is only for a 1 year contract it makes sense to have the permanent teacher fill that position rather than hire another teacher and still have to pay the permanent one.
